Description |
These bracelets are super easy and just take
a little time and patience during the drying time. They make great gifts
for mom or grandma when you use pictures of family members, but I love
using ARTchix minis. They are the perfect size for these bamboo tiles.
The great thing about the tiles is they are actually a placemat that you
cut apart! Each placemat gives you about 150 pre-drilled tiles just
begging to be made into some form or jewelry! So, search for them at your
local Chinese grocery store perhaps...or get them here online.
Skill level:
Beginner
Completion time: 3-4 hours, including drying time

For
each bracelet, depending on your wrist size, you will need 7-8
tiles. The bamboo tiles measure 1 ½” x
1” and are pre drilled and pre finished. |

Mini Collage Sheets |
One
crimp bead (this is for holding the button on) |
Petite Parade Collage Sheet (sized to fit bamboo tiles) |
Flexible beading wire, like Tiger tail |
|
|
Vintage button (or any button of your choice) at least 5/8” in size |
| |
Emery board or fine sandpaper |
| |
Gold
or silver leaf pen or permanent stamp pad of your choice (optional)
|
| |
Diamond glaze |
| |
Decal medium of your choice (There
are a lot of products on the market right now from a decoupage type
medium to a stick on “decal” type. You want to be able to soak in
water and rub off the back layer of paper to make a thin flexible
decal.)

Instructions |
To begin:
Select your favorite ARTchix mini prints to fit the tile with a slight
overlap. Prepare the decal using your favorite method. You will notice
on the bamboo tiles that some edges are more finished. These are usually
the outside edges of the placemat. I save those for the ends. No need to
prepare the tiles in any way, they are already sealed.
Place a thin layer of diamond glaze on your tile and spread with finger.
Place decal on each tile and press gently to make sure there are no
bubbles underneath. Let the decal drape slightly over the sides. Once
dry you can lightly sand the edges to give a more antique appearance or
just leave them alone. Let these dry completely. (this is the hardest
part!) Once they have all dried put a nice even layer of diamond glaze
over the top surface of each tile. Now go away and let them dry again. I
try to do this at night and go to bed so I’m not tempted to touch them
before they are ready. Once they are dry and completely set, you may
want to use a gold or silver leaf pen to draw around the edges. Or use a
stamp pad. They look great left natural also.
Now that the tiles are ready, it’s time to bead! Measure approx 6 feet
of beading wire and starting from the loop end, (middle of wire) thread
enough beads to be able to loop around your selected button. To hold the
loop, thread both ends through the slightly larger bead. (example A.)

|
Begin threading beads on
one strand of wire to comfortably reach top of first tile. About ¾”.
Thread that wire down into tile. Do the same thing with the opposite
wire, but you will come up through the tile from the other end. (example
B)
 |
String enough beads to go
over the top of the tile and back through the tile as in example B. You
will continue this way, connect the tile, bead over the top of tile,
connect, until you reach the end of your tiles. (example C) Thread
enough beads to reach the center from both ends as in the loop end.
Thread both wires through larger bead. Add your crimp bead here. Now,
add your button. You may need to thread a few beads on or the wire may
be fine, depending on the type of button. After the button is threaded
on your wire, take the wires back through the crimp bead. Crimp it
closed. Run the extra ends of wire through the ends and cut off. I also
put a little glue on the crimp bead just to make sure it doesn’t come
loose. Now you’re done! Now wasn’t that easy?!

| Notes |
|
Please feel free to print
these instructions for easy reference. (Use Landscape Layout when printing this page).
Note from Helga: This bracelet is so cool! For a super easy
version, try gluing desired images directly to the bamboo tiles with
a layer of Diamond Glaze on top and bottom. Dry overnight. Then bead
together as shown above.
Another note from Helga: Another way to adhere the images to
the bamboo tiles is by trying some of these
Transfer Techniques. Or a Xyron
machine works great too.
Another note from Helga:
StazOn ink is perfect for
stamping directly onto the bamboo tiles.
