Description |
|
The purpose of this class is to create
lanyards using bamboo tiles, ARTchix images, beads and cotton cording. I
have been making them for my colleagues to use as ID badge lanyards. If
you don’t put the hook on the split ring, the lanyard can also be used
as a stylish holder for your glasses or sunglasses. Why wear a boring
black ID lanyard when you can be a styling chix or chux?
Class Level:
Beginner
Class Length: about an hour after the Diamond Glaze has dried

Instructions |
For The Bamboo Tile:
1. Cut ARTchix image to fit the tile.
2. Using Diamond Glaze put a layer of glaze on the tile.
3. Lay the image into the glaze and wiggle the image to settle it
into the liquid. Make sure there are no bubbles under the image and
that all edges are smoothed down and flat.
4. Cover the entire image and top of the tile with the Diamond
Glaze. I have used my finger to smear it; and have also just allowed
the glaze to flow gently from the bottle tip. (Watch out for those
pesky bubbles. If bubbles dry in the glaze, they can look odd.) If
you get a bubble, add a sparkly crystal! I usually work on a
non-stick sheet when using Diamond Glaze. The tile won’t stick if
the glaze drips.
5. Let the glaze dry. While you will be tempted to touch the glaze
to test if it’s dry, just wait. (I put the glaze on just before I go
to sleep; and then they are dry by morning.)
For the Dangly Piece:
1. Cut about 5-6 inches of 22 gauge copper wire.
2. On one end, bend a circle and start wrapping the short end of the
wire around the long end. You can use your thumbs to coil the wire
or you can coil it around by using the needle nose pliers. Use the
needle nose pliers to make sure the coiling wire tip is snug against
the wire. This creates the top loop.
3. Add your decorative beads.
4. Bend another circle and coil the wire back toward the beads. When
coiling, try to get the wire close to the last bead. Snip the wire
with the wire cutters. Use the needle nose pliers to snug the wire
close to the bead. Don’t want a rough edge to snag your clothes.
5. Attach the bottom circle to a split ring.
6. Attach a lanyard hook to the split ring.
For the Necklace:
1. Cut a length of waxed cotton cord about 36 inches long. Select a
color that coordinates with your beautiful ARTchix image and your
wardrobe.
2. Thread the string through one hole of the tile (top to bottom).
3. Add beads.
4. Add the Dangling Piece and center it between the beads.
5. Thread the cord through the other hole of the tile (bottom to
top).
6. Tie the cotton cord at whatever length you’d like your lanyard to
be. (Make sure it goes over your head.)
And now you have a beautiful ID badge lanyard or eyeglass lanyard.
Have fun and wear it with style! All your friends will be jealous
that you are so well decorated!
