Instructions |
1.
Using the awl, hammer & cutting matt, punch a hole through the bottom of
1 medium and the large flip-top frames (see pic). Make sure to use a
cutting matt to protect your work surface and you only need to TAP the
awl LIGHTLY 2-3 times to get the awl through the metal. You do not need
to get the awl all the way through, your hole will be too big. Just tap
to get the point of the awl through.
2. Put on latex gloves and ventilate the room if necessary (not stinky
like Liver of Sulphur, but you can't be too safe!). Place frames in the
plastic cup then pour enough Jax Darkener to just cover the frames.
Carefully agitate for approx. 20-30 seconds. When darkened to your
liking, remove the frames from the solution and place on paper towels.
Rub the frames dry then set aside to dry completely. Discard the
solution (do not pour down your sink!)
3. Once dry, insert headpin so that the head is inside the frame. Attach
a split ring to the loop of the prepared frames.
4. Cut matt board pieces for each frame. Make sure they fit with the top
closed BEFORE you collage them.
5. If using 2 pieces of matt board for each frame, glue 2 matching
pieces together with Tacky Glue so you have 1 fat piece per frame.
6. Cut out and adhere images and vintage text using the Xyron 150
Sticker machine with Permanent Adhesive to the front and back of each
prepared matt board piece.
7. On the larger pair of frames (the large and medium one) glue the
paper flowers & crystals as shown.
8. Insert collages pieces into their respective frames. Glue the flip
tops closed with Super Glue Gel.
9. Thread a few beads onto the headpin.
10. Use round nose pliers to create a loop about 1/8" down from last
bead. Thread on smaller frame before closing the loop.
11. Wrap headpin back on itself a couple of times to close the loop.
Using 2 pairs of flat nose pliers makes this step MUCH easier! If
necessary, use flush cutters to cut off any excess wire. Use flat nose
pliers to make sure the end doesn't stick out to catch on your clothing.
12. Thread chain and/or ribbon through the split ring and VOILA! You're
done!
