ARTchix Studio Supplies General Supplies and Tools
ARTchix images: Seaside Cuties and Gentle Geishas Stickers (optional)
Rubber Stamps (optional) paint (optional)
  liquid resin
  Decoupage medium
  1 foam brush
1 damp rag that you don’t need
  Wax paper
  4 ceramic tile coasters
  2 straws
  1 disposable mask
  Rubber gloves
Dremel with a sandpaper bit (optional)
Instructions - General
First begin by cleaning and drying your tiles with water.

Then decide what images you are going to use. Coat tiles with a layer of decoupage medium and lay your image on top in your desired position. Coat the top with a second layer of decoupage medium and let dry.

Stamp or paint any designs you wish to have on your coaster, now would also be a good time to add any stickers that you may have selected. Once the paint and ink have dried, coat with decoupage medium again and let dry. Repeat the decoupage process 5 to 7 times and let dry completely.

Lay your tiles on wax paper and dampen you rag. Make sure you leave enough space to pick up each tile if needed.

PUT YOUR MASK AND GLOVES ON! Mix your resin according to manufactures directions. (MIX WELL!) Don’t worry about air bubbles.

Pour a small amount over the first tile. Using one of your straws, smooth out to edges. Using your damp cloth, carefully wipe off excess drips from the side of the tiles.

Lift your mask and take the other straw and blow through the straw onto the surface of the wet tile. You will see the air bubbles slowly disappear. Repeat steps 5 through 7 for the other coasters. Let dry for 24 to 48 hours.

Once dry, using your Dremel with the sand paper bit,  lightly sand off any excess drips from the sides of the coasters. Wipe clean and use!

Notes

Please feel free to print these instructions for your reference.

Note from Helga: I've also made wonderful coasters like this. But I just glued images to tiles, and then put a heavy duty varnish on top. They've lasted for years and look great!
